Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) take part in the Training/Orientation of Local Area Formations of HUSTISYA NATIN project

Local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) recently concluded the training/orientation of local area formations (National Capital Region and Central Luzon Cluster) of HUSTISYA NATIN project “Empowered Civil Society Participation in Monitoring Judicial and Quasi-Judicial Bodies towards Enhanced Integrity of the Justice System” last October 24-25 at Hive Hotel, Quezon City.

In partnership of Alternative Law Group, Ateneo de Manila University Human Rights Center (AHRC), Journalism for Nation Building Foundation (JNBF), Lawyers’ League for Liberty (LIBERTAS), Philippine Alliance of Human Rights Advocates (PAHRA) and Transparency and Accountability Network (TAN), the HUSTISYA NATIN project envisions the enhancement of the integrity of the justice system through increased accountability and transparency, and improved performance of judicial and quasi-judicial bodies. The HUSTISYA NATIN project is funded by European Union.

In the said training/orientation, the Humanitarian Legal Assistance Foundation, Inc. (HLAF) was one of the CSOs that attended the said event. HLAF was represented by HLAF Community Organizer, Mr. Kio Jerome dela Peña, and HLAF Communications Officer, Ms. Ma. Luisa Bautista. Also, HLAF Executive Director, Atty. Rommel Alim Abitria participated as resource speaker on the law and legal system of the Philippines including the concept of the law, Philippine Legal System and five pillars of criminal justice system and an overview of court and administrative procedure and special judicial remedies. At the workshop/discussion on thematic cases and quasi-judicial monitoring, HLAF Program Officer, Atty. Kristoffer Claudio, gave some inputs on the cases of the children experienced by children-rights CSO.

The training objectives were for the participants to develop the capacity of CSOs and community partners in understanding the judicial system and its processes, the HUSTISYA NATIN project and the setting up of the local area formations.
